Happy Summer! Runoff has subsided and the weather has been beautiful although we have had some mountain west thunderstorms during the afternoons and some hotter temps. And despite ok water clarity, fishing has been great!
The green river is just under 600 cfs by the Warren bridge. Lots of big foam action and we are also starting to see green drakes, grey drakes and PMD’s. Streamer bite early in the morning has been good but when it warms up the fish are looking up.
The snake has been fishing very well recently with water clarity starting to improve. Foam fishing has been fantastic but a dropper or a small mayfly trailed behind the foam has also been productive.
The Southfork also has been fishing quite well. The fish are looking up for foam and also smaller dries. We are starting to see larger numbers of salmon flies on the lower sections as well. Section one and two have been more of a subsurface game but the lower sections are starting to see much more fish looking up. weight to your rig to get it down in the column. Bead heads, blobs and other attractor nymphs have been effective with pats rubber legs working on lower sections.
The water in Pinedale is rising quickly and therefore is muddy. This is making fishing tougher though clearer water can be found on the upper stretches of the Green. We are on the verge of a worm hatch so stay tuned in the next few weeks for the water to drop and the fishing to fire up.
