The hot July days are fully upon us so make sure to monitor water temperatures and #keepfishwet. We are seeing peak water temps at ~65 degrees but keep an eye out as anything in the 67-68 range is a sign to put the rods down. That being said, the fishing has been hot too!
On the Snake in Jackson mayflies and moths are out, and you can hear hoppers on the bank. We have seen stonefly shucks on rocks though not yet in the air. Foam has still been fishing particularly along the banks, seams and riffles and we expect this to continue as fish start to clue into the hoppers. When hopper action slows down, smaller dries such as stimulators and mayfly patterns have been hitting. Droppers have been less consistent though can be productive off shelfs.
Fish on the South Fork of the Snake have been getting pickier, however there has still been great fishing particularly on the upper river. Golden stones, PMDs, and yellow sallys have been fishing well. Salmonflies are still out though fish have been less consistently eating them. Smaller hoppers have also been producing. On the lower river, we have had more luck on subsurface flies, with worms, pats rubber legs and PMD nymphs. The streamer bite has also been good depending on the weather conditions and time of day.
The Green has been getting very warm so definitely monitor temperatures and get out early and get off early. Small hoppers have been working and nymphing has been tough. Caddis, beetles, and ants have all been productive, but fish are getting pickier so consider longer leaders. Target deeper water this time of year. Streamers have been tough as the river is mossy.
