It's been a pretty crazy winter with fluctuating temperatures, but the fishing has been epic! Despite the warmer temps, we've seen lots of midge dry action on both the South Fork of the Snake and the Snake River in Jackson. Subsurface fishing has also been consistent. For your nymph rigs we recommend ~4 ft to your weight and ~7 ft total rig length. Swinging streamers on the South Fork have been effective as the water is still relatively cool so fish are less likely to chase aggressively. Sinking lines or extra weight in your streamer setup will also help get your fly down deeper where we are seeing the fish hold more consistently.
The next week looks more like spring than winter, with temperatures in the upper 40s even on the South Fork. This warmer weather should really boost the fishing activity. It's a great time to get out there before the crowds arrive!
