We've made it to August and there are some fun hatches going on! Fishing has still been productive on larger foam flies and there have been intermittent Mayfly hatches. Therefore, we are having fun both with dry dropper rigs and bringing fishing back to its original roots with single, small dry fly fishing.
We are starting to see September Stones hatching on the Snake in Jackson and are firmly planted in hopper season. There are also Hecuba's hatching on cloudy days so be on the lookout for those. Mahogany's are just starting though will come into full force over the next few weeks. However the foam bite will continue to be great well into September.
On the South Fork we have seen Mutant Stones pop up as well as a consistent September Stone presence. We are also seeing temperature and time dependent mahogany hatches. Consider using a dry dropper rig to capitalize on the continuing foam bite as well as the upcoming Mahogany and BWO hatches as we enter fall.
As the crowds start to thin, the bugs heat up and the fishing opportunities continue. Lets have some fun!
