The sun is shining, the peaks are still white, and it's time to tan… and fish! The warmer weather has our nearby fisheries becoming more active due to the rising temperatures and early season hatches.
The Snake River in Jackson has been fishing well, midge's out and about both in the morning and then again in the late afternoon. The streamer bite has been much more consistent with swinging and stripping both being effective. The fish are hungry as is typical in the spring so are a little more aggressive towards
those bigger flies. We are also having a Skwala hatch in the afternoons. It is
such a luxury to be able to catch fish on foam flies this early in the year
though this hatch is definitely a short one so capitalize while you can.
The South Fork of the Snake has had a recent flow bump from winter flows of ~900 cfs all the way up to ~9000 cfs over the course of a week or so. The fishing has still been great though is primarily sub surface. The flow bump has fired up the worm bite as of recent with fish hanging out in the slower, shallower waters. The attractor patterns, like blobs and pats rubber legs, have been very effective and we are seeing some bigger fish out and about. We also love our streamers!
Get out there and have fun before runoff fully kicks in!
