Wading Spots

1. Flat Creek in the Elk Refuge

Open August 1st to October 31st
These fish are big and highly spooky leading to very technical fishing. Hooking one fish is considered a success.

2. Lower Gros Venture

Easy access and parking both up and down from the Gros Venture campground with pocket water all along the way.

3. Blacktail Ponds

Open August 1st to October 31st
Blacktail Ponds is highly technical but holds large fish. It is primarily dry fly fishing with small dries (trico, pmds) and terrestrials (beetles, ants).

4. Jackson Lake Dam

Just below Jackson Lake Dam there is easy wading access and parking at the boat ramp. Primarily a sub-surface game with nymph rigs and streamers often successful.

5. Wilson Bridge

Parking at R Park or Emily Stevens park, both sides of the river fish well with fishing typically improving the farther upstream and downstream you go.

6. South Park Bridge

While this boat ramp is popular there are great pools up river and down river from the ramp that can fish differently throughout the year.

7. Hoback River

Follow signs as certain sections are on private land and are not open to fishing. Look for deep pockets of water to fish with a dry dropper rig.

The Firehole River (Not Pictured)

Opens May 1 until early July, then Sept until early Nov
Up in Yellowstone National Park the Firehole River often fishes well early season as the water is warmed by nearby geysers, though gets too hot mid summer to fish.
