Mid March Fishing Window 2021

March 12th, 2021

The Jackson area has been blessed with some very nice weather the past week , and it is forecasted to remain this way for at least the next 10 days.  Temps in the high 30’s – low 40’s has everyone itching to hit the river, and rightly so.  We have had success on the Snake and South Fork Rivers the last week and look forward to doing the same next week.  On the Snake, there are loads of winter midges and we are starting to see more little black “winter stoneflies”, technically Capnian Stoneflies.  Fish are podded up looking for these bugs, but they are extremely picky, the right imitation is essential.  Nymphing has been most productive and results in a fair share of whitefish.  With the water still at winter levels, there is ample opportunities for wade fishing.  The South Fork is low as well and is wadable.  The boat ramps on the South Fork are opening up, gradually, but you need to use clever launch and take out skills, don’t plan on floating unless you do your due diligence.  We are offering guided trips on both rivers, so give us a ring and experience some winter fly fishing.  The shop is open mon- fri from 9-4, give us a ring or stop by.  We are looking forward to a great summer!
