Snake River Fishing Report
April 20th, 2016
Happy Hump day! I hope people are getting ready for some warm April weather this week. We have predicted temperatures climbing into the mid 60s on Friday. Fishing on the Snake could be good now that our recent colder weather has cleared up the water on Snake for the time being. This weekend looks like it might cool down as well. The Snake, isn’t what I would call clear, but it is certainly not blown out. The streamer bite has been fantastic, and the Skwalas have been hanging around a little. Look for rising fish in the slow side pockets and along seams on the edge of fast water. Overall, I have heard good things about the fishing the past few days. Keep an eye on the flows, because when it gets warm like this and temperatures stay above freezing at night time, that’s when you might see a big spike in water flows, which tends to bring the dirty water. I know if I wasn’t stuck in the shop, I would be out there as we speak.
Sparkle minnows # 4, Dungeons, Buggers# 6-8, all in olive and black have been working well on the streamer side.
Smaller chubbys # 10-14 , stimulators # 10 -14, cluster midges#18 , BWO’s # 16-20 have all be good for the Dry fly fishing.
Nymphing has been good with Rubber legs#6-8, zebra midges # 16-20, prince nymphs # 10-14 P.T. s # 10-14
River Flows: The flows have dropped considerably since the spike last week that muddied up the river. Just a few cold days in a row can lock up the snow melt and clear up the water. Look for the flows to creep back up with this warmer weather. Click below for current river flows.
