After a great summer, the rivers in the Jackson area are coming into their prime fishing season. With the change of season comes changes in water levels and a change in the variety of bugs. The river flows on the Snake are a bit higher than normal for this time of year, but the flows on the South Fork of the Snake are ideal. This is our favorite time of the year to be on the rivers. Both the Snake and the South Fork are fishing well. The South Fork is providing some spectacular dry fly fishing with smaller flies and you can always be rewarded with an effectively fished streamer. The Snake River Finespot Cutthroat Trout are in their glory on their native river, the Snake River. The Cutties are feeding on BWO’s, Mahogany’s, Snake Drakes and larger September Stoneflies. Be prepared for changing weather, as cool and rainy days can be epic on our area rivers.
These next 2 months are the “Golden Hours’ for fishing the Jackson area, crowds are gone, fish are hungry, fish are healthy and they know winter is coming, so they are packing in the extra protein needed to get through the cold months.
