We have officially crossed over into Summer, so let the 2018 fishing season begin! We have had an eventful Spring in the Jackson Hole area with a river runoff period that occurred earlier and quicker than in years past. The month of May was uncharacteristically warm and sunny with very little rain, which sped up the snow melt to a peak in river flows on June 4th. The weather gave us a great opportunity to spend some time putting the finishing touches on our South Fork overnight camp, which is ready to roll and booking up quickly.
Starting the second week of June we saw the Green River, South Fork of the Snake, and the Snake River all take encouraging drops in measured flows, which led to better water clarity and more productive fishing. Unfortunately for anglers, we had a significant rain event occur within the past week as we took on over 3 inches of rain in many places, which put a hold on the Green and South Fork Rivers as they were raised back to the familiar runoff levels. As of today, both the Green River and the South Fork flows are on the way back down, hopefully down to their previous levels in about a weeks time. In the meantime, we are still having some good fishing success by drifting flashback Pheasant Tails, Prince nymphs, and Pat’s Rubber Legs in deep water. We are also sending guided trips to fish the Snake River from Jackson Lake Dam down to Pacific Creek, where dry fly fishing is turning on with Parachute Adams, BWOs, and Yellow Sallies. When fish aren’t rising for dries, we recommend fishing traditional nymphs such as the bead headed Pheasant tail and Hare’s Ear flashback, and small streamers with flash.
