As July rolls around fishing throughout the area has been steadily improving with flows dropping on most surrounding rivers. The Snake in Jackson has good visibility and is getting clearer every day. Fishing is picking up with large numbers of smaller fish hitting big foam and droppers throughout the day. Trying small dries could be a good idea in late morning and evening. If you like to streamer fish, don’t be afraid to work one around structure such as dike walls and log jams. Floating has been productive as well as wading at popular locations such as Emily Steven’s Park and South Park feed grounds. Some tributaries including Fall and Flat Creek have cleared up as well and are fishing similarly to the Snake.
Outside of the valley many rivers are fishing very well right now. The Green has been productive, but flows are dropping quickly with the discharge at Warren Bridge being most recently measured as 949 cfs. Our guides have still been doing well, and the mornings have seemed to be most productive with some reports of limited numbers of Grey Drakes. Caddis and PMDs can be effective as well.
The South Fork has also been productive, as Salmon flies have been spotted on the lower stretches of the river and will keep moving up. PMDs and Green Drakes have also been hatching. The fishing will hopefully improve in the weeks to come.
