3/20/15 Snake River Fishing Report
The weekend forecast looks like it will be perfect for fishing on our Snake River. All week people have been wade fishing, and floating the Snake, and South Fork. The reports are have been everywhere to good, and decent. A lot has to do with times of day, and how hard you want to work. The warmest parts of the day are when you would want to be fishing. The fish are way more active, as the bugs start to move once the water warms up. Still focus on the seams and slow currents to get the best action. I like telling people the best water to fish, is the water you may pass up in the summer months for being “too slow,”
Try nymphing and throwing streamers while looking for rising fish. Nymphing some rubber legs, and prince nymphs are a good bet, especially letting them swing at the end of your drift. Don’t shy away from the usual winter patterns like zebra midges, micro mayflies, and small PTs. Play around with streamer colors and sizes, but keep a slower retrieve. The rising fish can be picky due to their feeding patterns in slower water. Try Girffiths Gnats, and small midge patterns.
Looks like snow, and reasonably cold weather are coming in starting Monday. So get out, and enjoy this March weather while it lasts.
