With fall right around the corner, it’s hard to believe summer has come and gone. It’s been a great season for fishing so far and only getting better as the fall nears. Due to a large snow pact, we had a later start to the season this year. Despite the wait it has made for a great season. Normally at this time the Green is unfloatable in the higher sections, but thanks to all the snow we have been able to fish the Green well into August. It’s been one of the best seasons in recent years down there and has consistently fished pretty well for us. Although the season down on the Green is coming to an end there are still plenty other rivers which provide excellent fishing at this time.
We have had a great year on the South Fork so far, and only expect it to get better as fall nears. Flows out of the Irwin dam were reduced last week to just under 8000 CFS. Fishing remains consistent but has started to get a bit more technical. The fish have become more selective as they have started to key in on various PMD and caddis hatches. Every strike counts, and is becoming more and more important to capitalize on those soft eats. With fall nearing however, we should have some great fishing with fish trying to get that extra meal before winter.
Last but not least, the Snake continues to show us how healthy of a fishery we have. From the stretches up in the park to the lower stretches in the canyon, the Snake has fished consistently well for the last month. Numbers have been great this season as our guides keep returning with positive feedback. It’s been another great year on the Snake and should only get better as the season progresses.
There’s still plenty of time left to get out there and fish. Come check out the shop for the latest apparel and gear. With cooler temperatures expected in the next few weeks don’t be afraid to check out our great selection of Simms and Redington waders.
