Snake River:
Well its looks like the Snake River is off color, and muddy here in the valley . Temperatures in the 70’s this weekend melted a good amount of snow, and raised the snake from 1,800 CFS to 3,000 CFS in Moose almost over night. The Snake is still staying steady at 3,000 CFS at Moose. As I said in last weeks report this push in water has a lot to do with the run off in Pacific Creek, the Hoback, and the Buffalo fork, and of course other tributaries of the Snake. Keep an eye on the weather, because if it decides to get cold again, it could clear up, and leave us with a short little window of fishing. If it stays warm expect “chocolate milk” type conditions.
Green River:
I made a trip down south last weekend, and crossed over the Green river at Warren bridge. It was dirty, high, and way off color. There is still plenty of snow down there, so I suspect most of that is due to field run off, and lower elevation snow. It will be a matter of days before some of the higher elevation snow starts to come along as well. I guess it is that time of year.
There is still fishing to be had, you just need to be creative, and explore your options both in our valley, and on the Idaho side. Stop by the shop as always, and let us give you some suggestions. If your not in the Valley, and thinking of making a visit, call us at the shop. This run off may be a bummer at the time, but the sooner the better. It will be exciting to see what all this water will do for our fishery. It will change our river in spots, and make the fish happy, which is what we need.
This is a great time of year to go through your gear to see what you need to update. We have a large selection of Trout Hunter Tippet, Rio, and Umpqua leaders in all sizes. We also have some new rods in our shop that might be fun to cast on your lunch break. The Sage Method, and Scott Radian are the newest in our quiver, and are completely different, yet both amazing rods once you cast them. Come by and let me rig one up for you to try out.
Go get em,
Patrick
