The start of April has given us a glimpse of spring this week, and anglers are getting out on the Snake River. According to our veteran guide Brandon Murphy the fishing is “hot” right now. Brandon has done a couple of guided trips this week on our Snake River, and has some epic reports.
Streamers seem to be the ticket, with the occasional pods of fish rising to small dries, and midge patterns. Nymphing some Skwala stone patterns (maybe with a midge behind it) can be a very good method right now too. The Skwalas have yet to come out in numbers , but I have heard rumors of a few crawling on the banks.
This is some of our locals favorite time to fish the Snake. Pre run off fishing can produce great numbers of good size fish, while moving from snow to the banks of our rivers can help you get into the spring state of mind. Enjoy it while you can, run off will be here before you know it.
