Being one of the rare Teton valley residents who does not ski, I try to find other things to do during the long winter. As they say, “there are only 3 months – July, August and Winter”.
My favorite thing to do when the temperature gets over 35 is to go fish on the Snake or one its forks. We can get incredible midge hatches during this time and, if there isn’t a hatch, the fish are feeding on nymphs. Fish don’t only eat in the summer, right?
So, if you want to take a break from skiing, get out the waders, dress warmly, bring a thermos of coffee and head out for the day. The best activity is between 1pm and 3pm (the warmest time of the day), but you can have great success all day. If you are unfamiliar with the area, or need a guide, give me a call or stop by the shop so we get get you going.
